New daily format with short lateral news & snippets

Welcome to Day 1 of Daily Laterals - a new short form (thanks TikTok) email I’ll be sending every day with one thing that stood out to me and a couple of thoughts around it.
Simple and to the point.
Also, some of you have said the Comet AI browser invite didn’t work for you, so here’s a new invite for you to try out. It includes a free 1 month Pro membership.
Now let’s jump into today’s topic.
Who’s getting screwed by AI?
When new tech comes around, it’s usually the dinosaurs that get eradicated first. This time around, though, it looks like it’s the other way around (at least for now).
A recent Stanford study shows that young tech workers are more affected by the AI-workforce automation trend than older workers.
Young workers (22–25) in highly AI-exposed roles suffered a 6% decline in employment from late 2022 to July 2025, but older workers (35–49) in the same jobs saw a 6–9% increase.
My take
Businesses are more desperate than ever to find ways to move faster and implement more projects.
Everyone feels like they’re being left behind and most employers navigate towards experienced workers that, in theory, have a higher output rate.
They also usually require less management and are pretty self-sufficient. They will probably not hit a lot of home runs, but their batting average is good, which means they’re more predictable.
When you’re living in unreliable times, you want predictability.
If I were in your shoes…
If you’re young and feel getting a job is extremely difficult (hello, engineers), here’s how you can stand out from the crowd:
Reply to this email and let me know your skills & what you want to do. A lot of my founder friends are looking for exceptional people to hire, maybe something will be a fit
Build a portfolio. Prove your practical skills. Do personal projects that you find interesting and that can showcase your expertise
Go the extra mile. All of the A-players I’ve hired have been exceptional in their recruitment process - they did their homework extremely well, followed up, did stuff they were not asked to do just because it brought extra value
If you relate to any of this, here are two roles where I’m involved in recruiting and would likely like to talk to you:
2) Content Manager - you live, breath and eat visual & written content (think newsletters, social media, blogs, website content, SEO etc.). Graphic design (yes, Canva counts) is a big plus, but looking for someone who understands how internet content works. Reply here for this role.
That’s it for today. Hope you enjoyed this new format.
Speaking of being practical, if you’re an engineer or like technical topics, you should check this out.
